Challenge

  • Oil producer under cyclical steam injection (400°F) in Bakersfield, CA
  • Two upper zones were previously hydraulically fractured and operator wanted to permanently shut them off to improve production from lower intervals

Solution

  • RBP set to protect lower zones
  • Injectrol® NWB was bullheaded to isolate upper zone
  • Injectrol® NWB formulation was optimized for leakoff control against proppant pack (an increase of 300 psi was achieved during the treatment squeeze)

Result

  • Pressure integrity test showed total zonal isolation at the first attempt
  • Well is currently producing from lower zones
